Seattle, WA.
After a surge in popularity Alaska Airlines began expanding new flight routes and hubs, alongside a new headquarters in Washington State. I had the honor of being lead designer on their prototype company store and employee fit center during this exciting brand upheaval.
brand positioning and planning:
The runway became a driving design language for the project, following Alaska Airlines motto of “get runway ready” for their crew. Simultaneously, the space required clear path finding that tied in with the visual language of aviation.
Alaska Airlines color scheme and the gradient of the sky provided a color palette for the spaces.
flagship company Store:
The store’s entry underwent multiple design iterations, which ultimately blended together for the final seen above. Key features explored included an aperture for model planes to hang from and a means for showcasing them.
employee fit center:
Alaska Airlines brand refresh extended to each of their employees wardrobes, with new uniform options designed by famed fashion designer Luly Yang. The employee fit center and workshop was designed to accommodate a large flow of traffic. Lines, numbers, and various way finding tools were implemented, alongside integrated storage in the waiting area and a mannequin showcase at the entry.
early concept rendering of fit center, interactive displays styled as airplane windows were explored alongside a perch rail.
